Term	Definition used on this site
EORI	Economic Operators Registration and Identification number used to identify operators in customs-related interactions.
Economic operator	A person or business acting in the course of their activity in matters covered by customs legislation.
Declarant	The person lodging a customs declaration, whether acting for themselves or for another party.
Importer of record	The party responsible for import compliance in the destination territory, including duties and regulatory controls.
Direct representation	Representative acts in the name and on behalf of the principal in customs formalities, subject to national rules.
Indirect representation	Representative acts in their own name but on behalf of the principal, with liability implications depending on rules.
Release	Customs decision allowing goods to move into a procedure, including release for free circulation when applicable.
HS code	Harmonized System commodity classification used to determine duties and controls.
